Tout un hiver sans feu (One Long Winter Without Fire)

A tragic accident leads to a devastating loss. After their daughter’s death in a fire, her parents’ paths start to diverge. Laure ends up in a psychiatric clinic, while Jean tries to work and live as normally as possible. In the factory where he works, Jean meets Labinota, an Albanian from Kosovo, who works in the cafeteria. Labinota is waiting in vain for her husband to return, and during this time, she is cared for by her brother, Kastriot. Through Kastriot, Jean gets introduced to the community of Kosovar immigrants and befriends people who gather within their own circles in exile. Labinota fascinates Jean; he shares his pain over his daughter’s death with her and finds the understanding he did not receive from his wife. Jean’s close relationship with Labinota violates the norms of the Kosovar Albanian community and undermines the trust that Kastriot had in Jean.
